Radio personalities do not typically offend me, but I am no fanof their work.Calling them "personalities" is a stretch, but I would notcategorize all of them as shock jocks, either. You do not have tobe a shock jock to be a jerk. There have been at least a couple of highly publicized incidentsof late involving these people. Don Imus ended up getting fired forhis ridiculously poor judgement in calling members of the Rutgerswomen's basketball team unflattering names. A radio tandem in NewYork got dropped for making fun of Asians in an ill-advisedbit.To me, the worst of these incidents remains the phone call madeby Phoenix radio personality Beau Duran to the widow of St,michael kors purse. LouisCardinal pitcher Darryl Kile during the 2002 playoff series betweenthe Cards and the Diamondbacks. The creep, over the air, told FlynnKile she was hot and asked if she had a date to the next playoffgame, just a few months after her husband died in a Chicago hotelroom. How did Duran think this bit was going to go over? It was asickening, despicable act. You have to wonder how this guy wouldhave felt if someone had done something comparable to a member ofhis family.I realize shock jocks and other radio loudmouths will be aroundas long as they find an audience, which is sad in and of itself. And, I do not mind lively debate. But,Fendi B.Fab Bag, controversy for the sake ofcontroversy means nothing to me. I wish it meant less toothers. This week's trivia topic is radio.1.
